When I saw the Dinner for Six option in the latest Eddie’s of Roland Park catering brochure, I was stunned. The price seemed crazy, like way low. I asked and they said, “Yep, it’s correct. Something new we’re trying.” So, I had to order it and see what it was all about.
A little background: I am working in partnership with Eddie’s this holiday season to highlight ways people can make their holiday gatherings and shopping, etc, easier. Over the next few weeks, you will see me share on subjects like Thanksgiving and other holiday gatherings for friends and family, some of my favorite treats at Eddie’s, ways to save time in the kitchen and more. Last week, I wrote about some of my favorite family traditions (see: sauerkraut and leftovers!) and this week, I hosted a Friendsgiving feast at my new apartment. We ordered Dinner for Six, had it delivered (fancy…) and it was so much fun. Here’s more…
So, Dinner for Six gets you a fully cooked 8-10lb turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing, gravy, choice of two sides and a pie. ALL OF THIS for $75. It all comes in one big box with handles, easy to carry and unpack. They have simple reheating instructions online (to which I totally referred…) and as catering manager Troy Clash points out, “This really covers all of the bases with the option to select your favorite sides and dessert. And if you want enough for leftovers, or some extra sides or casseroles, you can always add more.” I would highly recommend ordering extra mashed potatoes – they were so good! And the Brussels sprouts were fantastic…full of flavor and just enough char. And the pumpkin pie was one of the best I’ve ever had, no exaggeration. And at my house and at many other Baltimoreans’ homes – including the amazing John Waters – you must have sauerkraut. That is a rule. I always put a dollop of sauerkraut on my plate somewhere, it reminds me of my dad. I miss him dearly.
When I asked Eddie’s about the price, executive chef Mike Balcer said, “We’ve been cooking up Thanksgiving à la carte for decades, but we wanted to offer something special for our 75th anniversary. For new customers, our holiday Dinner-for-Six is a great introduction to the variety and level of quality Eddie’s offers.” True! I would never thought to order all of this unless it was bundled in this way. And the price made it possible. Often, I see Eddie’s as a place to treat myself (more on that in a future blog post!) and this was a treat on a whole other level. And, it gave me an excuse to have some friends over to enjoy it with me, kind of perfect.
So, I’d totally recommend this for a Thanksgiving or Friendsgiving or just a random December treat! I mean, you really can’t go wrong with this meal. Whatever you decide, get your order in before December 31st…this deal’s not sticking around after the holidays.
Happy 75th birthday, Eddie’s. You are a real classic, hon.
